I've just finnished watching Adam Curtis brilliant new documentary series The Trap: What Happened to Our Dream of Freedom. Once again he takes a really fresh and interesting look at todays world and the influence of neoliberal and neoconservative ideas in society, politics and economics. He does not have a typical leftist perspective, he's much more open minded and he presents no easy solutions. Most of the time he just points to certain phenomenons in todays society and tries to explain them. He's kind of a sociological David Attenborough who studies the human world instead of nature. He use an almost hypnotic collage technique when he creates his documentaries and mix old and new interviews with rare stock footage and a fantastic soundtrack. In this series you have a chance to see interviews with Friedrich Hayek, John Nash, Richard Dawkins, Jean-Paul Sartre and many many more strange and interesting persons. I really don't know why, but besides Margaret Thatcher I think all of them are men. Anyway - I really recommend this series. You can find all three episodes on Google video - here are the links:
The Trap 1 - "F**k You Buddy"
The Trap 2 - "The Lonely Robot"
The Trap 3 - "We Will Force You To Be Free"
