ultravox!

ultravox!, originally uploaded by Johan Muren.

Finally! Island/Universal has re-released remastered versions of the first three Ultravox! albums. Do yourself a favour and buy them.

The first album, Ultravox!, was released in 1977 and is a bit uneven. But it contains two classic tracks - "I Want to be a Machine" and "My Sex".

The second album, Ha! Ha! Ha!, was also released in 1977. If the first album was some kind of electronic glam rock this album is much more inspired by the punk scene. Eventhough that's hard to hear on the most stand out song of the album, the hypnotic and chillingly beautiful Hiroshima Mon Amour. The CD also contains the brilliant Young Savage and the great first version of Hiroshima Mon Amour from the b-side of the ROckWrock single. Very different, very distorted and absolutely wonderful.

The third, and best album, Systems of Romance, was released in 1978. It's cold electronic and very european rock sound was hugely influential on artists like Gary Numan, Japan and pop acts like Duran Duran.
