class of 2006

2006, originally uploaded by John Barleycorn.

This seems to be a promising year for anime series. My favourites so far are Noein, Eureka Seven and Karas. Of them I like Eureka Seven the most. It's a great mecha anime created by bones, the studio which gave us masterpieces like Fullmetal Alchemist, RahXephon and Scrapped Princess. Once again they have managed to create an intriguing mix of drama, great characters, imagination and action. The animation is good, maybe a bit more traditional than in Noein and Karas who depend more on CGI, but it doesn't really matter when the story is as good as it is. Eureka Seven also has a great soundtrack. Especially Hiroshi Watanabes (a.k.a Quadra) excellent house tune GET IT BY YOUR HANDS. I recommend all three of these anime series and hope that 2006 will continue to be a great year for anime.
