lolita gone berserk

kamikaze girls, originally uploaded by John Barleycorn.

Shimotsuma Monogatari a.k.a. Kamikaze Girls is one of the best movies I've seen recently. It's a spectacular comedy based on a novel by Novala Takemoto and directed by Tetsuya Nakashima. It's the weird and beautiful story about the friendship between two young girls, the Lolita fashion addict and huge admirer of the French Rococo style Momoko and the rude biker girl Ichigo. They live in the small rural city Shimotsuma, a town mostly known for its cabbage. The beautiful photography and the great soundtrack by Yoko Kanno just adds to the overall greatness of this movie. This is just one more evidence of how far ahead the asian movie industry is right now (even though you can see influences from the french director Jean-Pierre Jeunet). If you like funny and original movies you should definitely watch this one. Have fun and go berserk!
