the sarah connor chronicles - the turk
TTSCC continues to be entertaining and , maybe not really but to some extent, interesting. In this episode the writer of TTSCC, Josh Friedman, seems to have been inspired by Masamune Shirow. Masamune Shirow is the creator of the most excellent manga, anime and tv-series Ghost in the Shell and Ghost Hound. Masamune Shirow use plenty of references to nerd science, weird science, philosophy and art in his work and in this episode of TTSCC there's a serious amount of references to famous scientists. The episode is named after the 18th century Austrian-Hungarian author and inventor Wolgang von Kempelens chess playing machine The Turk. I hope Masamune Shirow and crazy geek science will continue to be an inspiration to the show. A live action version of GITS would be great.

this mortal coil - song to the siren
This Mortal Coil was 4ADs own super group. This song is from their first album It'll End In Tears which was released in 1984. It's one of my favourite 80's albums and this Tim Buckley cover performed by Elizabeth Fraser (Cocteau Twins) is a classic wether you like it or not. The album also contains a cover of Roy Harpers Another Day. When you listen to Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel singing that song five years earlier it ought to become obvious that there were at least some links between the 80's post punk and goth movements and the progressive movement of the 70's.

dali's car
his box
Dali's Car was a very short lived group formed by Peter Murphy (x-Bauhaus) and Mick Karn (x-Japan). Here they perform live at the Whistle Test in 1984. I'm not absolutely sure, but I think it's Steve Jansen who plays the drums. Looks like him, eventhough a guy called Paul Vincent Lawford is credited as "rythm constructor" on the album.
the judgement is the mirror
I think this is the only Dali's Car video that was made. Laser discs were pretty damn cool back in 1984.

kate bush - the man with the child in his eyes
Here's Kate again with another brilliant performance from that same BBC Xmas special. After watching this I've started to develop a mime fetish.
kate bush - the wedding list
This is Kate Bush live at The Prince's Trust back in 1982. In the band you can see and hear Mick Karn, Midge Ure, Phil Collins and Pete Townsend among others. Mick Karn and Kate Bush are brilliant as usual eventhough Kate has some problems with her top.
Here's a more violent version of the song from Kate Bush 1979 BBC Xmas special. Excellent stuff! I want that show on DVD!!

the sarah connor chronicles - gnothi seauton
The second episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has been aired. It wasn't as good as the first one but definitely worth watching. The dialoges felt a bit stiff sometimes and the plot was kind of indistinct and almost annoying from time to time. But the show has something that I like - and it's not just Summer Glau as the new hot teen terminator who's protecting the young John Connor - there are other things too. Even though I think they could have managed to write a better and tighter script for this episode the setting of the show is promising. I like the dark mood and the pale colors of the cinematography. It feels very post 9/11 with school shootings, homeless people, trailer parks, gangsters and violence. No terrorists so far but I'm sure they'll show up sooner or later.

the sarah connor chronicles - pilot
I watched the pilot episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles today. It was excellent! I was surprised that it was so good. I'm totally looking forward to the next episode. TSCC takes place right after T2 and the new cast didn't distract or disappoint. Lena Headey is just as good as (or bad as) Linda Hamilton, the original Sarah Connor. And just as with T3 you don't miss James Cameron at all. He must be the most overrated director of all time.

audionom
Audionom was the first band to play and their show was absolutely brilliant. It was one of the best concerts I've seen in a very long time. The first time I saw them, five or maybe six years ago, they were more of a modern krautrock band. But they have become much heavier now. Sometimes they almost sound like post-metal bands like Isis and Cult of Luna. And just as in some of Cult of Lunas songs you can hear tiny echoes of The Cures Pornography album, especially in Johan Hinders vocal style. I'm really looking forward to their new album.

roborabbit
In Blade Runner it's that weird glow in the eyes that indicates who's a Replicant and who's not. As you can see this rabbit outside my school is a potential replicant. It fits brilliantly to one of the main themes in Philip K Dicks book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?.
blade runner
Finally did my Blade Runner Ultimate Collector's Edition Box arrive. It's a piece of beauty. The extras are abundant and really well made. I especially enjoyed the three hour plus documentary Dangerous Days: Making Blade Runner. Excellent stuff. The toy Spinner and the little unicorn were nice too. It's like a little piece of nerd heaven.
